About Me (Edward T. Novak, LPCC)

I earned my bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame and my Masters from the University of Akron. A Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio, I have 16 years experience working with individuals, groups, adults, adolescents, couples and families. I have training and experience in a wide range of therapy approaches including: counseling, psychotherapy, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and body psychotherapy.

I have a special interest in trauma (e.g., physical, sexual and emotional abuse, accidents and disasters including war). My treatment, research and writings on trauma place an emphasis on integrating neuroscience, cognitive science, body psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy into a more comprehensive treatment approach for trauma survivors.

I have worked with diverse populations and problems including: self referred individuals with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma or relational issues; adolescents struggling with teen issues (emotions, peers, school, alcohol and drugs, sexual issues), adult and juvenile clients on probation and paroled prison inmates.

Currently, in private practice my client’s are generally self-referred with issues of depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma and abuse. I have published two recent articles. One article explores working with unconscious process. The second article explores the current research and theories for working with traumatic experiences, which I use in my work with trauma and abuse survivors.

I recently completed additional Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training at the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center. I am a member of several peer psychoanalytic psychotherapy education and training groups in Cleveland, Oh. and Pittsburgh, Pa.

I was appointed to the Editorial Review Board of the Transactional Analysis Journal. This appointment is for the three year period 2009-2011.
